Betteshanger Sustainable Parks is unique and ambitious project, or rather a series of exemplary environmentally sustainable projects, which is being built on the 121 hectare site of the former Betteshanger Colliery in East Kent.
Led by the Hadlow Group, the £40 million Betteshanger Sustainable Park scheme will drive social and economic regeneration in East Kent. It will combine sustainable business and commerce; education and sustainable energy; and tourism.
Betteshanger will be a flagship sustainability project providing future life chances through linking green technologies and old energy production. It will be a national exemplar in Green Energy Technology and a beacon project for the county in terms of environmental ambition and overarching sustainable lifestyles.
Betteshanger will connect people with energy and energy with people.
The scheme will generate significant private sector investment, thousands of jobs, new education and training opportunities, high quality commercial space and offer major strategic growth potential for East Kent and county-wide through:
Betteshanger Business – a bespoke green technologies business and education park of exemplary ‘low carbon’ buildings for companies in food security, environmental technology and green business
Betteshanger Park & Kent Mining Museum – an international visitor destination showcasing mining heritage & sustainable energy within an outstanding country park environment.
Betteshanger has generated widespread support and worked closely with key partners since 2009 to create the vision for the scheme, including:
- Homes and Communities Agency
- Coastal Communities
- East Kent Spatial Development Committee
- Heritage Lottery Fund
- Dover District Council
- Kent County Council
